Most sex offenses are felonies, especially in cases of abuse or child molestation where there is a significant age difference between the alleged victim and the accused. There are several felony sex crimes that are non-probationable. These carry a sentence of 4 years minimum or 6 years minimum in prison. These more serious charges also require lifetime registration as a sex offender. In addition, if you are charged with multiple sexual abuse or sexual assault charges involving a single victim, Illinois judges are required to sentence those charges consecutively, so you may face a lengthy sentence.

As with so many other situations where a person is charged with a crime, you should not attempt to negotiate or talk about the incident with the police or the person accusing you of a sex offense.
